Only one almanac

 

The photography records and expresses everything in the universe. But there are no publications in the world except for this book that records and expresses everything about the photography.  Awards, Exhibitions, Albums and Books related to the photography are almost innumerable today, making a clear-cut contrast with the economic depression. As we look at the works by prize winners, which constitutes the chapter one of this book, we are impressed by their varieties and affluence of their creativity

This book summarizes everything that took place in the world of photography from January 1 through December 31 of the year 2009, so this is the fifth volume of the series that started in 2006.

 

We renewed the cover design from monotone to a colorful arrangement of photos picked up from “The Works by Prize Winners”  Also we dedicated 36 pages for a special feature titled “Interviews with People in Tokyo”. In which we covered interviews with 18 people who made outstanding achievements in 2009.  In addition, there are four Special Reports covering major topics in the photographic world today.

Chapter 2  “Roundtable Discussion: Photography 2009” covers the works in major topics

in the last year among those exhibited or published. The panelists are Kotaro IIZAWA、

a photo-critique,Mika KOBAYASHI, a photo student,Rei masuda、The Chief Curator of

Tokyo National Museum of Contemporary Art,Master of Ceremony, Manabu TORIHARA, a

photo student.

 

Chapter 3  “Special Feature:Interviews with People in Topic in 2009” covers interviews with 18 people very active in 2009, Keizo KITAJIMA, Mitsuhiko IMAMORI, Junichi OTHA, Masashi ASADA, Yasuhiro OGAWA, Naruaki ONISHI, Jiro NOMURA, Keiji TSUYUGUCHI, Daido MORIYAMA, Rika NOGUCHI, Sen YOKOTANI, Mizobe SHUJI, Chihiro MINATO, MOON Heung Sik, Hozumi NAKADAIRA, Yoshi TAKATA.The interviewers were Kyoji MAEDA, Manabu TORIHARA, Naoya YOSHIKAWA, Yoshitaka TAKAHASHI, Sachiko HIRONAKA, Kotaro IIZAWA, Mari AKO, Machi TANAKA, Hiroyasu YAMAUCHI, Kazunori KOHNO, Toshiyuki HORIE.

 

Chapter 4   “News 2009 in Japan” reports major events of photographic world in 2009

From January 1 through December 31. The reporters are Manabu TORIHARA and Hidetaka NAWA.

 

Chapter 5  “Overseas News” covers photographic activities in France and Germany reported by India DHARGALKAR、a photo-consultant living in Paris, USA reported by Misako OBA、a  photographer living in U.S., China by Naoya YOSHIKAWA、a photographer and Korea by Kim In Sook, a young Korean photographer.

 

Chapter 6  “Photo Exhibitions 2009” covers reports by Manabu TORIHARA for Eastern Japan、Hiroyasu YAMAUCHI for Middle part of Japan and Goro MORIMOTO as well as Naoya YOSHIKAWA for Western Japan.

 

Chapter 7   “Book of Photographs 2009” is reviewed by Kotaro IIZAWA、Kin-ichi OBINATA、Ryuichi KANEKO、Kyoji MAEDA、Hiroyasu YAMAUCHI and Yoshiro FUKUKAWA.

 

Chapter 8   “Advertisement Photography in 2009” is a dialogue between Hiroshi SUGANUMA, the director of Guardian Garden and Koichi HARA, an art-director.

 

Chapter 9   “Best Three Photographs 2009” are selected by 12 members, namely Kotaro IIZAWA、Teruo OKAI、Takao KAJIWARA、Ryuichi KANEKO、Mika KOBAYASHI、Mariko TAKEUCHI、Manabu TORIHARA、Kyoji MAEDA、Naomi YANAGIMOTO、Hiroyasu YAMAUCHI、Naoya YOSHIKAWA、Kyoko YAMAGISHI.

 

Chapter 10  “The Independence and Development of the Nature Photo” is

reported by Manabu TORIHARA.

 

Chapter 11  “Big Magazines for Ladies-how they attract readers with photos” is reported by Mari AKO.

 

Chapter 12  “Photos by Schoolchildren ” is a group discussion at the site of the Exhibition of Kids’ Art in Mie at Mie Prefectural Museum, participated by Ryouko ITO, a curator of the Mie Prefectural Museum, Katsuhito NAKAZATO, a photographer,Naomi YANAGIMOTO, a professor at Zokei University and Chikako FURIHATA, a curator of the Meguro City Museum.

 

Chapter 13   “The Recent Decade of Digital SLR” is reported by Hidetaka NAWA.

 

Chapter 14  “Special Interview: Takeyosi TANUMA” is a 30 pages feature covering an interview for three days with Mr.Tanuma by Hiroshi OSHIMA.

 

Chapter 15   “List of Names Related to Photography” is an index to photographers,

photo-critiques, writers, students, designers and art-directors, including

organizations  and schools.

 

Chapter 16   “Photographic Galleries and Museums in Japan” lists all photo galleries and museums littered all over Japan, edited by Yasunobu ICHII.

 

Chapter 17   “The Profiles of Authors” is the profiles of 30 people who contributed to this issue.
